How to prevent mold in bathroom

However, preventing mold doesn’t have to be a daunting task. By implementing a few simple strategies, you can keep your bathroom mold-free and maintain a healthier environment for you and your family.

Here are some essential tips to help you prevent mold growth in your bathroom.

1. Improve Ventilation

Bathrooms are often closed off, leading to moisture build-up after showers or baths, so you can:

• Open windows for at least 10-20 mins after bath procedures.

More modern fans uses less power, giving more efficiency AND works quieter, and some also have a built-in light bulb or humidity sensor. Normal fan costs around 100 CAD, so it's not so big problem.

2. Keep Surfaces Dry

3. Use Mold-Resistant materials

Choosing the right materials can significantly reduce the chance of mold growth:

• Grout with special chemicals. We usually recommend our customers choose grout that already contains antifungal agents such as Triclosan, Zinc-Pyrithione or Biocides.

• Waterproofed drywall. We always use that drywall for bathroom renovations because it was developed for these purposes

• Waterproofing for walls and floor. We don't recommend to do the tiled flooring without special membrane that don't pass the water to wooden materials like frame. Especially we recommend it for shower building

In conclusion, we do not recommend doing tiling, fan replacement and other repairs with your own hands if you are not an expert in this field, we often receive requests from customers who wanted to do the work themselves and only made the situation worse and got injured.
